Boldmere & Tanworth Promoted
Well done to Boldmere Sports & Social Club winning Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League in week 14. They made no mistake in beating Langley 7-3 to win the league in their debut season. Captain Adam Weaver says “we’re happy to round off an excellent season with a good solid home win against Langley. It was another well spirited, competitive game against Langley and in truth they were the better team in the first 4 but we managed to dig in well, grind out a few shots to keep the game tight and some good performances from our back 4 gave us the result we wanted. That comment pretty much sums up our season as well, at the mid point of the season the league was pretty tight with various teams in with a shout. We thought we were unlucky to duck out in a couple of away games earlier in the season but we managed to kick on in the end, winning our last four games of the season to seal the league title. As a new team and a relatively new group of players to be able to win Division One in our first season in the league is extremely pleasing and we look forward to hopefully improving further and the challenge of competing in the Premier Division next season. Special mention also and congratulations to Matt Grundy for winning 10 out of his 12 games (there were a few close calls along the way) and winning the league averages!” Best winner and MVP for them was Marc Franks 4. For Langley it was Matt Beaman best winner and MVP 15.
Well done to Tanworth in Arden for getting promotion after beating Victoria Park and Penn 9-1. Skipper Stuart Bishop comments “the lads played very well for our last 2 home games against Victoria Park and Penn. We managed to pick up 9 points in each game and this put the pressure on Woodfield before they travelled to Victoria Park for their final game of the season. Overall, a great season for us with some very good home and away performances.” Best winner for them in both games was Dave Wolverson to earn him MVP in both, winning 6 and 4 against the Park and Penn respectively. The winner for the Park was Julie Alderman 17 and for Penn Darrell Handley 10 to earn them MVP. Woodfield got two winners at Victoria Park to finish 3rd. Lee Bevin was their best winner 18 and Joe Dicken MVP for winning 19. Pete Cookson and Chris Lester were best winners 6 for the hosts, Chris earning MVP. The other game of the week saw Hamstead defeat Penn 7-3, Richard Parkes best winner 7 and Craig Dugdale MVP for winning 19. Bruno Heath and Tim Benton were best winners for Penn but John Heath got MVP for winning 20.
Boldmere finished 7 ahead of Tanworth in Arden who finished 9 ahead of Woodfield. Matthew Grundy won the League Averages with 10 wins and Pete Cookson, Joe Dicken and Nick Newey all finished with 4 MVPs.
