West Brom staying up, Mill get big home win
West Brom FSC are staying up after an away win in week 17 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They got three winners at M&B Cheslyn Hay, led by Greg Smith’s best win of 13 to earn him MVP, but after M&B played an unregistered player, this meant they won 8-4. M&Bs best was Lee Hulse and Jack Hill 13, with Jack getting MVP. Windmill got a big 9-1 win over Baldwin, Danny Statham their best winner 4 and Ian Roles MVP 14. Spokesman Ian Roles said “we were in last chance saloon before the game, with several players missing, but managed to pull off a good performance to beat Baldwin 9-1. Danny Statham, Kevin Handley, Alan Brown were exceptional on the night! We still need a few results to go our way next week, but we are in there fighting!” Ryan Walters was the winner and MVP for Baldwin 15. The George got an 8-2 victory over Willenhall Nordley to help their quest for survival. Best winner and MVP was Steve Dicken 6, while for Nordley it was Calum Bray best winner 15 and Paul Evans MVP 17. Triplex got a 7-3 win over Moseley CC to help their quest too. Captain Chris Baker says it was “a tight fought 6 shot victory gave us a win and a 7 point haul against an excellent travelling Moseley side. The first four all got off to very good starts, but the heavy deluge of rain soon changed that with Triplex eventually gaining three of the winners to give us an early lead of just 13 shots at the halfway stage. Scott Follis was the difference for Moseley in the first four, bowling brilliantly to leave Simon Dreher on just 9 (to be best winner and MVP). The games were shared in the back four, on a very wet green, with Matt Caines clinching the match for Triplex with a 21-9 victory (to be best winner). With just one game to go we need to do the same again next week at home to Nordley to give ourselves every chance of remaining in the top flight in 2026.” MVP for Triplex was Chris Bergin with his 14 win. The Greville were edged out 6-4 at Stretton Anglesey. Carl Fielding was their best winner and MVP 7, with the home’s best being Matt Milsom 7 to earn him MVP.
Windmill and M&B Cheslyn Hay are two points behind Triplex, who are another three behind the George, and another 4 adrift of Baldwin. Callum Mitchell lost his first game of the season but has won the League Averages, and Danny Statham the most MVPs.
