Gameweek 2 Review – Division One

Ward End Cons win away, Great Barr whitewash

Ward End Cons inflicted a second straight home defeat on Penn as they won there 9-3. Captain James Cosgrave said the team “were chuffed with our away win at Penn. We started the game well and the last 4 played extremely well to keep the game in our balance. Results like this prove to us we are a good side on our day, and we just need to be more consistent on a regular basis.” Adam Weaver was MVP and best winner 13 after coming back from 8-1 down, while for the home side debutant Dave Lloyd was best winner and MVP 12. The Great Barr whitewashed the Royal Oak, in “a good solid performance” as described by captain Bob Jones. “We have 3 good young bowlers in the team, Steve Tonks making a winning debut in the Summit League. A very satisfying result considering they won at Moseley CC in the Warwick and Worcester Premier League.” Richard Parks was best winner 7 with Craig Dugdale’s 9 win getting MVP. Dane Hopwood got MVP for getting 19 for the visitors.

The Windmill enjoyed another good home win as they beat Netherseal 9-1. Ian Roles and Glyn Storer were best winners 9, but Darrell Handley got MVP for winning 12. For the visitors it was James Southern who got MVP as he won 14. Woodfield beat Tanworth in Arden 8-2 to keep their solid start to the campaign up. Captain Nick Newey led the way with best win and MVP with his 21-7, with Matt Higgins the same for the visitors with his 12 win.

Stretton Anglesey versus King George V was postponed, the new date being 21st May.
