George keep winning streak going, Fields & Nordley earn four
The George kept up their winning streak as they won at West Brom FSC 8-4. Spokesman Elliot McGuinness said “it was a good away win to maintain our title challenge, possibly a bit unlucky to not pick up a couple more points as Ryan and Russ Prosser both got into winning positions. But it was nice to extend our lead at the top of the table with a solid 8 points.” Greg Smith was best winner on his return 10 but Ryan got MVP in his game with Andy Saunders, with Andy also getting MVP for that win 19. Matt Hocknull was best winner 11 for the home side. The Greville Arms are are still in 2nd despite just three winners at Dudley Dell. Ross Dunkley was best winner 9 for them and Josh Hale MVP for his 18 win. For the hosts it was Simon Homer who was best winner and MVP 4. St Georges also won 7-3 at home to Moor Lane. Colin Beaman was best winner and MVP 2, with Adam Walker best winner 17 for the away side and Kirk Stevens MVP for winning 18. St Georges skipper Pete Grimston said “it was a good performance after the last one against the George. Colin played well in the corners and Sonya Lucas played exceptionally well. We were happy with the result and if we can keep winning our home games until the end of the season then that should keep us away from trouble. It is a very tough league.”
Castlefields got 4 winners at Moseley CC. Skipper Mark Taylor said “the team battled well at Moseley in what proved to be a close game, we were disappointed to dip out on the aggregate after securing 4 winners. Mike Beer was excellent and Steve Freer bowled immaculately early doors to win 7 (best winner and MVP) and 16 respectively, with Keith Wall and Mark Taylor battling back from a few shots down to win 15 and 16 respectively. The frustration of another narrow away loss when not being at full strength will spur us on across the next round of fixtures.” Scott Saunders was best winner 4 and Bill Kinchin MVP 11 for the home side. Willenhall Nordley went even closer at M&B Cheslyn Hay as they had 4 winners and lost by 8. M&B were thankful for best winner Kevin Keary 10 and captain Aaron Tapper’s 11 win which earned him MVP. Kevin Hocknull was best winner 9 and Richard Bate MVP for his 16 win for the visitors.
The George are now 17 clear of the Greville Arms, with Moseley CC and West Brom FSC 9 behind M&B Cheslyn Hay at the bottom. Callum Wraight still leads the averages despite not playing, and Marc Wilson is still leading with 4 MVPs for the Mark Taylor Support Ltd. award.
