Baddesley win away, Park go close
Baddesley laid down a marker for the 2022 Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League Division One as they won 10-2 at Langley. Captain Tom Lea was “unfortunately not able to play myself after just returning from an injury but nevertheless I had a very strong side available. I sent them away thinking that 4 winners would be a good result against a Langley side that play their green very well but the team put on a great performance with that result. I have spoken with the captain on the day Will Beal and this is what he had to say. ‘Tyler Dewis put on a real MVPs performance (to be best winner 6 and was relentless all game coming away with a brilliant win against a good player in Matt Beaman. Both of the Lynch brothers played a good game and never seemed to be in danger coming away with two good wins. Jordie Baddeley was another that although the score line was close never seemed to be in too much trouble as did George Chapman. Even the two losers put in good performances and ground some shots out when needed. Overall a brilliant team performance from the lads.’ We’ve started off the season well and we are hoping to continue throughout the season playing for the late Phil Brown because we know how much this team meant to him and we hope to do him proud.” Captain Sarah Beaman was best winner 13 for the home side with Mike Tunstall MVP for winning 20.
There were two away teams that got 4 winners, with Victoria Park and Wrockwardine Wood getting that many at Woodfield and Triplex respectively. Vic Park only lost by 9 shots, and captain Stuart Edwards said it was “a real up and down game played throughout in a good competitive way. We on the whole were a little disappointed not to come away with the win, I think we would have thought a fair return before the game but with 10 minutes to go we looked favourites. Woodfield dug in well to get over the line. On to the next challenge.” Best winner for the Park was Stuart himself 9, but Gordon Hawkins got MVP for winning 12. Home captain Nick Newey was best winner and MVP 4. Wrockwardine Wood will be happy with their 4 at Triplex. Helen Clee was their best winner 11, with Louise Cotton MVP for winning 12. Steve Darling was best winner and MVP for Triplex 4. Windmill beat Baldwin 8-2 with Stuart Gittings best winner and MVP 5, and John Beet doing exactly the same for the away side with his 5 win. Hamstead defeated Belmont Services 7-3, Andy Sprason best winner and MVP for the home side 2, and Darren Staley and Kevin Starkey were best winner and MVP for the visitors with their 12 and 15 wins respectively.
