Baddesley extend lead, Hamstead win away
Baddesley extended their lead at the top of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League Division One after beating second placed Windmill 9-1. Captain Tom Lea said “it was a brilliant team performance all round, if someone had offered me 7-1 before the game I’d have bitten their hand off. Last night saw the return of Harry Chapman to the side and he put in a true MVPs performance too (best winner 5), although personally my MVP was Adie Hughes who seemed to be down all the way through his game but still managed to grind out a win for a vital point and it was a great game to watch. The other 5 winners were their normal selves using the quick green to their advantage and all putting in good performances. Dave Hayward played the green really well and didn’t give George much chance really (to be best winner 14 and MVP). Not only did we pick up 7 vital points against our closest rivals we also continued to improve on our shot aggregate, great result for us.” This allowed Baldwin to gain on Windmill with their three winners at Victoria Park. Jack Newsome was their best winner 15 with Lee Harvey MVP for winning 19. For the home side it was Stuart Edwards best winner 9 and Julie Alderman MVP for winning 11.
Hamstead produced their first away win of the season as they won 9-3 at Langley. Skipper Craig Dugdale said “our first four bowled exceptionally well and really took the game away from Langley (+38 after 4) it was the best we have bowled so far this season. But credit to Langley who continued to battle throughout and had 3 winners in the last 4 led by a great performance by Matt Beaman (21-4 and MVP). Special mention to Richard Parkes who at number 4 was my MVP playing Paul Rolls who was really bowling well and despite how well Paul was bowling Richard stuck in there and ran out from 18-8 down (a crucial card at the time).” Joe Bown was their best winner 4, with Lucas Hall MVP for winning 16. Woodfield edged another tight home game 6-4 and by 2 shots against a much changed Wrockwardine Wood side. Captain Nick Newey helped lead the way with a best win of 8, but it was the other best win of 8 by Chris Marshman who got MVP. Former home player Stuart Rutter was best winner and MVP 12 for the visitors. Belmont Services v Triplex was postponed because of a car breakdown suffered by Triplex.
Baddesley are now 13 ahead of Windmill, who are 3 ahead of Baldwin. Michael Lynch and Jordie Baddeley are both 8 out of 8.
