George are Champions, Moor Lane relegated
The George are Champions of the 2022 Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League after beating M&B Cheslyn Hay 8-2 in week 18. Captain Rob Carter said “a good solid performance. We knew we needed 6 winners to guarantee the title. Had 4 winners out of the first 4 to take the pressure off. Steve Davis (best winner 14) and Aaron Tapper (MVP for winning 17) played very well for them in the back 4 but we got the 2 points we needed. Overall we have been consistent over the season barring a couple of games and think we deserved to win the league in the end.” Best winner and MVP for them was Ryan Prosser 7. M&Bs 2 winners were enough to keep them safe despite Moor Lane having a good 7-3 win over the Greville Arms. Dave Alldritt was best winner and MVP 9 for them with Callum Mitchell best winner and MVP for the away side for his 3 win. Moseley CC also survived after getting a fine 4 winners at Strettin Anglesey. Skipper Scott Saunders says it was a “great great result. We had a last minute change with Adam Kirby dropping out and Karen Kinchin coming in and we knew we needed at least 3 winners to guarantee staying up. First 4 were excellent with 3 winners, and we were 9 up with two left on the green so narrowly missed out on winning with Conor Chamberlain beating Karen last on (to be best winner 11). Great game, good spirit as Stretton needed to win to guarantee 4th also. It’s been a good first year up narrowly missing out on Tanworth in Arden, M&B and Stretton. Need to be up our game at home next year.” Scott Follis was best winner for them 9 and Bill Kinchin MVP for winning 17. For the home side it was Richard Worthington who was MVP for winning 16. The win for Stretton meant they did get the last prize money position of 4th after West Brom FSC got 3 winners at Willenhall Nordley. Chris Watts was MVP and best winner for them 15, while Paul Evans was best winner 9 for the home side and Dave Semper MVP for winning 18.
The George win the league by 4 points, while Moor Lane are relegated after being 2 points below M&B Cheslyn Hay. Scott Simpson has won the League Averages.
Well done to the George on their success, and to Scott for winning the League Averages in consecutive years.
