Week 1 Preview – Premier Division

The opening week of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League is here for the 10 Premier Division clubs looking to win the league or retain their place in our top league. Newcomers Atherstone Cons and Windmill both start with home games. Atherstone host Moseley on their new home green, with captain Tom Lea saying “we will see how much of an advantage that gives us at home in comparison to Baddesley.” Moseley will be looking to take advantage of that and give themselves a good start. Windmill host West Brom FSC looking for their own good start. Skipper Stuart Gittings says “wWell where do I start looking forward to the first match nice to be at home however the green will not be at its best in terms of pace as the weather will have done its best to slow things down. West Brom have some very good players, a few of theirs will have played the Mill a few times over the years so expecting a tight good game and one which we hopefully come out on top as home form is going to be key to us staying up this year which has to be our first target. A few of the guys are having a chuckle over our fantasy league prices
Personally I think we are over priced!”

Champions The George host Tanworth in Arden looking to retain the title they won last season. Tanworth will be looking to move into the top half and prize money this season. Willenhall Nordley finished runners up and will be looking for a win at neighbours M&B Cheslyn Hay, who hope they can improve their home form and avoid being in trouble at the bottom. The Greville will be looking at reclaiming the title but face a tough trip to Stretton Anglesey who finished 4th last season and were unbeaten at home.
