Division One Season Preview

Team: Baldwin

Captain: James Kernick

We have made one new signing Kevin Mytton who has returned to the club after spending a few years away.

Aims are to try and improve away performances in order to finish that little higher in the table in 2023.

Team: Belmont Services

Captain: Brian Jordan

We have signed Matthew Fearn and Ed Wallis but lost Rikki Higgs to Stretton Anglesey.

I would like to think we could be around the top 3 but realise what a good competitive league it is. We are really looking forward to the league starting.

Team: Bradmore

Captain: Reece Farr

We’re looking forward to playing in the summit this year, a few of us have played in it before, some haven’t. We have a good young squad, most of us haven’t seen most of the greens before but will be looking to compete for the title!

Team: Hamstead

Captain: Craig Dugdale

We are looking to improve on a disappointing campaign last year, narrowly losing two home games cost us. However with another year under our belts on the Hamstead green we would hope to be up there challenging for promotion in what looks like quite an even division. We have lost Luke Hall to the Army and Phil Wain has moved to live in Shropshire. But we have gained Jak Locker from King’s Heath and Mark Skelding from Streetly so can field a good eight. Bring it on!

Team: Langley

Captain: Sarah Beaman

No one has joined us this season and no one has left us for the for the forthcoming season. Our aim is to enjoy our selves and play a high standard of bowls, on greens that we wouldn’t get to see on a regular basis. We didn’t get off to the greatest start last year, so fingers crossed we have a better start.

Team: Triplex

Captain: Chris Baker

We are roughly the same squad as last year, but we do have a new player in Nick Peters ex Moseley, who isn’t available for the first few games of the season but will be a good addition when needed. Dan Bowater is available full time this year, so that is a big bonus Hopefully we’ll be as competitive as we were last year and we’re aiming again to push for a top half finish.

Team: Victoria Park

Captain: Stuart Edwards

We have added Chris Ward to our side. Having struggled at times last year with most of the venues being new to us we are hoping for a vast improvement on our first year’s results.

Team: Woodfield

Captain: Nick Newey

We’ve gained Tom Bate and also got Lee Bevin available after having two hip operations since the start of last season. Scott and Craig Taylor are happy to fill in where needed but that’s it really. I’ve got 3 under 25s, Tom, Joe Dicken and Rory Rollason and if they can show some promise we could be tangling with the top teams, but it really is anyone’s guess.
