Hamstead & Vic Park win away, Triplex whitewash Woodies
Hamstead and Victoria Park both won away in week 5 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Hamstead won 10-2 at Langley to please captain Craig Dugdale. “A very good performance from the lads at Langley where we always seem to bowl well, as we won here last year. We were helped as Langley were missing a couple of players who were over in the IOM, also heavy rain on Sunday meant the green was probably more away bowler friendly than Langley would have wanted. Neverless a great showing by our lads with some tight bowling, the damage was done in the first four having all four winners and a 32 shot lead, we added a further 2 winners in the 2nd four increasing the winning margin to 40. Joe Bown, who always bowls the green well (he won 21-4 here last year) was MVP for us winning 10. That win has put us in a good position in the league and if we are able to maintain our current form I think we can be in or around those top spots” Joe was best winner with Ben Harris, while Kris Norgrove was best winner for the home side 15, and Jonathan Blakeman MVP for getting 20. Victoria Park won away 8-4 at Belmont Services. Skipper Stu Edwards said “having struggled last year we were really pleased to get a good solid away win, the green was more away friendly that on our previous visit and we took advantage of this.” Best winner and MVP was Clive Alderman 12, with Colin Belcher best winner 8 and captain Brian Jordan MVP for the home side 16.
Triplex whitewashed Woodfield 10-0, with captain Chris Baker commenting on “an excellent team performance from 1 to 8 against a very experienced side. A special mention for Jack Darling who trailed Mark Atkins 14-3 and 18-8 before running out to win 21-18 and secure a full house at home.” Steve Darling was best winner and MVP 4 for them, while Tom Bate got MVP for the visitors for getting 19. Baldwin defeated Bradmore 7-3 with captain James Kernick best winner and MVP 8, while away captain Reece Farr was also best winner 12, but Dave East got MVP for winning 18.
Baldwin are one point ahead of Hamstead and another two ahead of Triplex. Emily Kernick is top of the League Averages with 5 out of 5 wins, and Pete Cookson top of the MVP table with 3.
