Bradmore beat leaders, Woodies gain good home win
Bradmore had their best win since entering our league with a 8-2 win over previous leaders Baldwin in week 6 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Captain Reece Farr says “we are delighted with the result on Monday vs Baldwin, everyone was up for it and battled throughout their games. Geoff Wylde was unreal against Jack Newsome who battled back to get double figures from 17-0 down. Bruno heath vs Ryan Walters was a great game to watch in the back four (Bruno won MVP 19). The atmosphere was brilliant, we are starting to build together as a team and hope our home form continues!” Mark Crook was best winner 11 for them, while for the visitors it was Emily Kernick 16 who was best winner and MVP. Woodfield nearly got Triplex back for their whitewash the week before, but will be very happy with a 9-1 win over them. Skipper Nick Newey said “after last week’s drubbing on Triplex, we very much wanted to seek retribution. The green was running favourably and although we were missing John Newey and Joe Dicken, we had most able replacements in Mick Hill and Lyndon Hazlehurst, who both won. Assured performances from the first 4 saw us take all 4 winners and a 34 shot lead. As the sun went down and the pace of the green changed, the test became more challenging for the back 4. But, the hopes of reversing last weeks result were scuppered when Steve Darling, a Warwick and Worcester legend, had a break of 8 to take control against an exuberant Rory Rollason and eventually get over the line to spoil an otherwise perfect card (winning 17 and earning MVP). An enjoyable match, played in the right manner against a group of great characters.” Mick Hill was best winner 5, with Mark Atkins getting MVP for winning 13.
Hamstead are now top after a 9-1 win over Langley. Richard Parkes was best winner 4 and captain Craig Dugdale MVP 12, while for the visitors it was Jonathan Blakeman who won 15 to get MVP. Victoria Park backed up their away win last week with a 7-3 victory over Belmont Services. Chris Lester was best winner 10, while Gordon Hawkins got MVP 13. Andrew Fearn was best winner and MVP 5 for the away side.
Hamstead are 6 ahead of Baldwin, who are another 4 ahead of Triplex. Emily Kernick is 6 out of 6 at the top of the League Averages, while Pete Cookson and Jonathan Blakeman are top of the MVP table with 3.
