Baldwin face leaders test, Two hopefuls clash
Baldwin face the league leaders Hamstead in week 9 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Captain Jim Kernick expects “another tight clash between ourselves and Hamstead is expected. I don’t see there being much in it to be honest. Hamstead have been opponents at our green on a couple of occasions now, so I expect a close run game, especially with the awful weather of late making our home games less advantageous. Hopefully we come out on the right side.” 3rd place takes on 2nd place as Bradmore take on Triplex. Both teams have been in good form, and know a good result in both matches may be the difference come the end of the season. Victoria Park are in 4th and will look to take advantage of those two teams meeting as they travel to a familiar green in Langley where they played Saturday, although they lost 12-2 there. Langley skipper Sarah Beaman says “well we’ve got another tough game against Vic Park, who we hosted at home on Saturday. So the team they will likely field will have some players who played against us on Saturday and have recent green knowledge. Fingers crossed for a good home result.” Woodfield can still crash the promotion race with a good home result over Belmont Services, who are level on points at the bottom of the league with them, but the Woodies have another home game in hand on the rest.
