Week 8 Review – Premier Division

Greville win away, Baldwin edge out West Brom

The Greville won away in week 8 in the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League to close the gap at the top of the table. Captain Callum Mitchell said “going to Windmill we always knew it was going to be a tough place to go with how the green is this season unfortunately. Jack Newsome gave us a good start with his win (best winner with Callum 10 and also MVP) and then the rest of the lads did what they had to do to come away with a great away win. The atmosphere was brilliant and a good game to be involved in.” Glynn Storer was best winner and MVP for the Mill 9. Baldwin managed to edge home West Brom FSC 6-4 to continue their good form. Skipper James Kernick said “it was a hard fought game from start to finish with both teams playing some good bowls. The main difference was the early lead given to us from Karl Taylor who won to 4 against Rachel Bennett (to be best winner). This gave us a decent cushion to work with which we just about managed to keep until the final game on the green. Both teams had 4 winners a piece which was probably just about fair. Natty Tonks played very well and beat Simon Homer in a close game and Andy Saunders played solid for West Brom beating John Beet (10 to be best winner) which earned him MVP. MVP for Baldwin was Ryan Walters who beat Chris Watts 11. So the final points were 6-4 in favour of The Baldwin.”

Willenhall Nordley scored a fine 8-2 win over the league leaders The George. Best winner and MVP was Mark Jones 4, with the Champions’ winners being both 21-20 by Adam Patrick and Russell Prosser, with Adam getting MVP. Moseley CC defeated Hamstead 7-3 with Scott Follis best winner and MVP 4 and Ben Harris the same for the visitors with his 11 win. Stretton Anglesey suffered their first loss of the season but will be happy with their 4 winners at Atherstone Cons considering they were missing a few players. Best winner and MVP for them was Anthony Rushton 6, with Tom Lea best winner for the Cons 9 and Adrian Hughes MVP for winning 11.

The George are 6 ahead of the Greville Arms and another point ahead of Stretton Anglesey who have a game in hand. Hamstead are 6 behind Windmill and another 5 adrift of Baldwin. Jordan Baddeley, Adam Patrick and Darren Round have all won 7 games. There are 3 players who have won 3 MVPs.
