Three whitewashes, Hamstead edged out again
There were three whitewashes in week 8 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. League leaders the George beat Atherstone Cons 10-0 to completely reverse the home loss they suffered last season. Captain Elliot McGuinness says “A good win for us after the slip up at home against Atherstone last year. Our home form has been really good throughout this season and hopefully that’s something we can continue until the end of the season.” Best winner was Elliot himself 21-3, with Marc Wilson winning MVP for beating Liam Dennis 17, who also got MVP. The Greville also won 10-0 against the Baldwin, best winner being Ross Dunkley 6 and Callum Mitchell MVP for winning 8. MVP for the visitors was Karl Taylor who got 20. Stretton Anglesey were the final 10-0 winners over the Windmill. Skipper Paul Chamberlain says “everyone played well to be honest. Some decent performances from the Windmill lads. Nice to have the close games go our way to give us a full house which, although we’re pretty solid at home is a rare thing for us.” Darren Carter was best winner 4 and Brian Barrass MVP for winning 18. Danny Statham was MVP for winning 19. Hamstead narrowly lost at home again as they lost by 9 chalks despite 5 winners. Best winner was Ben Harris 15 with MVP going to Richard Parkes who won 18. For Nordley it was Dave Semper’s best win of 8 that earned him MVP and helped them win the game 7-5. West Brom FSC beat Moseley CC 8-2 with Mike Hill best winner and MVP 7, while for Moseley it was Bill Kinchin best winner 7 and Scott Saunders MVP for winning 15.
The George are 6 points ahead of the Greville Arms who are another point ahead of Stretton Anglesey, who have a game in hand. Hamstead are one point behind the Windmill who are another 5 adrift of Baldwin. Adam Patrick and Darren Round are on 8 wins at the top of the League Averages, while Dave Semper heads the MVPs on 4.
