George earn massive win, Stretton win away
The George earned a massive win away at rivals West Brom FSC in week 16 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They won 7-5 there by just one shot to please captain Elliot McGuinness. “A great win in a really close game with West Brom. After last week’s near miss at Moseley that result really puts us in the driving seat which is exactly where we’d want to be with two home games ahead of us.” Best winner and MVP for them was Phil Clinton 11, while Rachel Bennett was best for the home side 10 and Simon Homer MVP for winning 17. The Greville Arms did close the gap on the leaders with a 9-1 win over Atherstone Cons. Steve Wallace was best winner and MVP 4 and Will Beal was the winner and MVP for the visitors 9. Stretton Anglesey earned a good 9-3 win at Hamstead. Skipper Paul Chamberlain said it was a “lovely night for bowls. A good win with a few out with a good atmosphere, the game was played in right way.” Best winner for them was Conor Chamberlain 11 and Neil Brown was MVP 13. The home side’s best winner and MVP was captain Craig Dugdale 10.
Baldwin got an important win at the bottom with a 9-1 success over Willenhall Nordley. Andrew Boswell was best winner 14 and Shannon Kernick MVP for winning 19, opponent Paul Evans also getting MVP. The winner for Nordley was Steve Bodley 14. Moseley CC also got an important victory 6-4 over the Windmill. Bill Kinchin was best winner and MVP 9 for Moseley, while for Windmill it was Mick Bardsley and Stu Gittings best winners 17 and Dave Chester MVP for winning 19.
The George are 3 points ahead of the Greville Arms and another 8 ahead of West Brom FSC who have a game in hand.
