Week 16 Review – Division One

Triplex move closer, Tanworth earn big away win

Triplex moved closer to winning Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League after whitewashing Woodfield 10-0 in week 16. Captain Chris Baker said it was “an excellent full house victory by 62 shots puts us within touching distance of promotion The first four were all very close games but we managed to somehow get all four winners. The heavy artillery in the back four completed the job with outstanding wins for Steve Darling 21-1 (best winner) and Dan Bowater 21-7 (to earn MVP). We move on to another massive game at Tanworth on Monday.” Rory Rollason got MVP for getting 20 for Woodfield. Tanworth in Arden scored a big 10-2 win at Belmont Services to close the gap on 2nd. Skipper Stuart Bishop said it was a “brilliant team performance. Belmont started well for the first 10 minutes and our first four dug deep and turned their cards around, giving us 3 winners. This seemed to help the back four and we got 3 more winners.” Stuart himself was best winner 9, and Dave Clarke MVP for winning 12. For the hosts it was Ryan Worthington best winner 15 and skipper Brian Jordan getting MVP for winning 18. Penn are out of the promotion picture after a 5-5 loss on Langley. Best winner and MVP for Langley was captain Sarah Beaman 4, with opposition skipper Darrell Handley best winner for them 8 and Mia Benton MVP for winning 11. Victoria Park suffered their own blow for promotion with just 3 winners at Royal Oak, despite this moving them into 2nd place. Stewart Meddings was MVP and best winner for the Oak 3, with Jack Lester best winner 13 and Pete Cookson MVP for winning 17.

Triplex are 12 ahead of Victoria Park, who are one ahead of Tanworth in Arden, but they’ve played one more game than both. Darrell Handley is now one win ahead of 5 others. Rory Rollason has won 6 MVPs.
