Week 17 Preview

Premier Division

There are just two home games between the George and retaining the Premier Division title of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They host Moseley CC knowing a big home win will help in their last game against one of their rivals West Brom FSC. However Moseley CC still aren’t safe, given that Windmill and Atherstone Cons below both have two at home and they have two away. Windmill host bottom placed Hamstead who would need to win their 8-4 to avoid relegation in their first season in the Premier Division. Home captain Stu Gittings said “obviously every match is big but these next 2 at home are our biggest of the season we need to get at least 16 points to have any chance. So going all out for the win. Hamstead are a good side with some top players and the game always played in the right manner. Hopefully we’re in top form and it goes our way and also other results. Then we can look forward to the last match with it all still to play for!” The Greville Arms know they most likely need two away wins to have a chance of winning the league, but that will be tough given they travel to Stretton Anglesey who are unbeaten at home this season. Stretton though will think they can overhaul the Greville and get into the top three with a good home win. Skipper Paul Chamberlain is “expecting a tough game but looking for 2 home wins to finish the season off and give us a realistic chance of getting 3rd place.” West Brom FSC are another that could do with an away win to try and catch the George, but face another unbeaten team at home in Willenhall Nordley, although Nordley don’t have much to play for as they are firmly in 5th place. Atherstone Cons against the Baldwin has been rearranged to Friday 30th August, while Atherstone travel to West Brom three days earlier.
