George Champs, Windmill survive
The George made it three Premier League titles in a row in the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls league. They defeated West Brom FSC 9-1 to win the title comfortably by 13 points. Captain Elliot McGuinness said “another fantastic year for us on a Monday, to win it three times in a row is a really great achievement. For some reason our last game has often been against West Brom at home and we’ve managed to seal the title against them once again with another strong performance. Also a special mention to Adam Patrick for winning the league averages, been really consistent throughout and for me he’s one of the most underrated players in the Midlands. We’ll be hoping for four on the bounce next year, but I’m sure a few of the other teams will have something to say about that!” Best winner for them was Adam Patrick 6 with Marc Wilson MVP for winning 7. The winner for West Brom FSC was Chris Watts 12 to earn him MVP.
The Windmill managed to stay up with a 9-1 victory over Moseley CC. Skipper Stu Gittings said “well thanks to the Brummies for winning the Crosfield Cup the day before a few of theirs had a late/early night! The green was under water at 6.30 so we started at 7.30. We all know the green has been in poor nick all season so rain didn’t help and we got off to a good start to be 3-1 up. Scott Follis bowled well, he was 14-10 down and ran out (to earn MVP). The back four dug in and got the job done. 9-1 was a minimum we required and we still needed help from others so we have got away with one this season and looking forward to next season! Big thanks to the organisers and teams that travel to play in this league, we need to keep it going strong!” Best winner for the Mill was Phil Chester 7 with Dave Chester MVP for winning 16. It was Atherstone Cons who went down, despite a strong 8-2 win over Greville Arms to keep their unbeaten home record going since coming into this league. Best winner was Matt Horton 2 with Jordan Baddeley MVP 12. Jordan Bradbury was MVP and best winner for the visitors 17. The Baldwin got the one they needed at Willenhall Nordley, Matt Grundy 21-14 to be MVP. Owen Evans’ 8 win was the best win for the hosts to earn him MVP. Hamstead had a good result to end their tough season with 4 winners at Stretton Anglesey. Charlie Bown was best winner 11 and Richard Parkes MVP for winning 19. For the home side, who finished 4th, it was Richard Stretton best winner 7 and Jack Brooks MVP for winning 12.
Well done to the George on winning the league again.
The George finished 13 ahead of the Greville Arms with West Brom FSC finishing a point behind in 3rd. Hamstead went down along with Atherstone Cons, who were just two points behind the Windmill and another point adrift of Moseley CC and Baldwin. Adam Patrick won the averages for the first time finishing 8 above Darren Round, with Jason Cooke a further 11 chalks behind. Scott Follis had the most MVPs with 6.
