Baldwin win away, Baddesley whitewash
Baldwin won away in week 6 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League Division One at Langley 8-4. Captain Jim Kernick says it was “a tough fought game between both teams with Baldwin running out away winners 136-145, with 4 winners each. Paul Rolls for Langley, on his birthday, bowled solidly against an out of sorts John Newsome and raced into a commanding lead, finally winning to 7 (to be best winner). It was looking a similar story for Kaye Coultard who was well up against another birthday boy in Jack Newsome. Jack was almost dead and buried at 17-9 down when firing. Missing it, he strolled down to the end, only to find he was actually just counting. Very fortunate indeed, as he then dropped on a weight in the corners, not giving Kaye any chance. He ran out and won to 17 earning Jack the MVP for us. Karen Rolls got MVP for Langley in her game v Shannon Kernick. Wrapping it at the start it looked like Shannon would go on to win comfortably, however Karen dug in and battled gamely to go a few ahead. Shannon got on a small run at the end finishing on 17. Other notable positives for us were very solid games from Emily Kernick winning very nicely to 7 (to be best winner), and John Beet to 16. Lee Harvey, although losing 16, put in a solid effort in a high quality game versus Mike Tunstall. Thanks to Langley once again for their after match hospitality.” Baddesley kept up the pressure at the top with a whitewash of Victoria Park. Skipper Tom Lea says “it was a brilliant night all round for the boys with a good performance against a strong team in Victoria Park, a real MVPs performance from Tyler Dewis using every part of the green to his advantage and not relenting all game (to be best winner 1), the Lynch boys were as strong as ever grabbing another two wins. A real well ground out win by Carl Wilkins who battled from behind for most of his game. Jordie Baddeley, Will Beal, Adi Hughes and George Chapman all played good games coming off with comfortable wins to grab the team a big win adding to our already big shots for tally in the league table that may come in handy towards the end of the season.”
Windmill lost ground to Baddesley with just two winners at Hamstead. Stuart Gittings was best winner and MVP for them 12, with Ben Harris best winner and MVP for the home side 8. Wrockwardine Wood had another close home win 7-3 versus Belmont Services. Steve Downs and Martin Gaut were best winners 14, with Martin getting MVP. For the visitors it was Kevin Starkey best 15 and Rikki Higgs MVP 16. Triplex continued their good form with a 8-2 win over Triplex. Daniel Baller was best winner and MVP 21-2, while Woodfield had two 20 winners with Craig Taylor and Mick Hill, the latter gaining MVP.
Baddesley lead by 8 to Windmill, who are 4 ahead of Baldwin. Michael Lynch and Jordie Baddeley have won 6 out of 6.
