Atherstone continue good start, Moseley earn great win
Atherstone Cons continued their good start with an 8-2 win over the Greville Arms in week 5 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Captain Tom Lea said “Monday night was a great win for us as a team. The Greville turned up with a strong side however after the first four the game was all but won with 3 great performances from Tyler Dewis, Willie Beal and Ben Lynch all winning to single figures (Willie the best 5). With another three winners in the second four we rounded off a good team performance. We are looking forward to seeing how we get on in the reverse fixture next week.” Harry Chapman was their MVP for getting 13 off Callum Mitchell, while Steve Wallace got the Greville’s MVP for winning 17. Moseley CC earned their best win of the season with a 9-1 victory over West Brom FSC. Captain Scott Saunders said it was a “great result against a good team, good performances by all really. We know we need to have big wins at home to stay up and it cancels out our narrow defeat to the Greville.” Best winners for them were Scott Follis, Adam Kirby and James Seville, with the latter getting MVP, while Greg Smith was the winner and MVP for the away side 15.
The George defeated M&B Cheslyn Hay 8-2 with Phil Clinton best winner and MVP 5. For M&B it was Cody Everitt and Steve Davis who were the winners 9, with the latter getting MVP. Stretton Anglesey beat Willenhall Nordley 7-3 as Ian Brown was best winner 6 and Rikki Higgs MVP for winning 10. It was Scott Simpson who was best winner 10 for the visitors, and captain Dan Bodley got MVP 14. The Windmill also won 7-3 against Tanworth in Arden. Phil Chester and Glynn Storer were best winners 6 and Danny Statham was best winner MVP 10. For Tanworth, it was Mark Williams and Stuart Bishop best winners 16, the former getting MVP.
Atherstone Cons are 4 points clear of the George and another 3 ahead of the Windmill. Tanworth in Arden and M&B Cheslyn Hay are level on points, 8 behind West Brom FSC. Ben Lynch, Marc Wilson and Danny Statham are all level on 5 wins. Mark Williams has 3 MVPs.
