The 2024 Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League season kicks off on Monday with both divisions looking highly competitive. The George will be looking for a third title on the spin, but will have good competition from the Greville Arms who narrowly finished runner-up last season. Willenhall Nordley are a team that are there or there abouts each year, but Atherstone Cons and Stretton Anglesey finished above them last year. However both teams know they need to improve on a good season for both to be able to challenge the top two this year. Two new teams come into the Premier Division in Baldwin and Hamstead, and both know it will be tough to stay in this league. However Windmill will have to overcome an issue with their green to be able to stay up, while Moseley CC will hope they won’t need to rely on heroics again in their last few games again to survive. West Brom FSC only just stayed up last season, but will be looking to push up the table rather than be at the bottom.
Division One seems to be wide open in terms of promotion this season. Triplex just missed out last season, and have made two good signings in trying to earn their first promotion in this league. The two teams who were relegated last season, Tanworth in Arden and M&B Cheslyn Hay, will be wanting to bounce straight back up again, while two new teams in Penn and Royal Oak will be looking to be at the top end of the table. Victoria Park will look to finally be pushing for promotion since coming back into the league, while Woodfield, Langley and Belmont know promotion may be out of reach but will be looking at a top half finish.
